Andrew Wiseman joined Harrison Grant in 2013 and has nearly 30 years experience in environmental and planning law. He was formerly a partner and head of environmental law at an international law firm in the City of London.
Andrew has been listed in the Chambers Guide, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal as one of the country’s leading environmental lawyers. He carries out the full range environmental and planning law. He has particular expertise in contaminated land, waste, environmental searches and environmental insurance. He often advises other solicitors where their firm does not have the necessary in-house expertise.
Andrew is Chair of DEFRA’s Contaminated Land National Expert Panel (the only lawyer on the panel) and also chairs the Advisory Council of UK Export Finance (ECGD). He is a former chair of the UK Environmental Law Association. He has acted as a specialist advisor to the Local Government Association on environmental law and is a Vice Chair of Environmental Protection UK’s Land Quality Committee. He is Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management Corporate Governance and Professional Ethics Committee and a former trustee of CL:AIRE. He is currently a Board member of a Hastoe Homes, a housing association specialising in sustainable rural housing.
He is a joint editor of the Law Society’s Environmental Law Handbook (7th edition 2010) and the environment chapter of their Conveyancing Handbook.
He has written for various publications, spoken at numerous conferences and been interviewed on television and radio including BBC News 24, the 6 and 10 O’clock news, LBC business news, Watchdog, Radio 4 and 5 in relation to environmental law.

Acting in relation to numerous sites around the country in relation to Part 2A (the contaminated land regime) including acting for the first local authority to use Part 2A in April 2000, a site identified as contaminated due to asbestos in soils and a commercial site impacted by landfill gas.
Advising numerous UK and US law firms on environmental law issues including assisting with due diligence, the negotiation of environmental warranties and indemnities and advice around potential contamination issues in property transactions.
