Law Commission report on Japanese Knotweed & other invasive non-native species

The Law Commission has published its report on the control of Japanese Knotweed and other invasive non-native species. DEFRA asked them to look at this issue so they could decide whether to introduce legislation on invasive non-native species.

They conclude that:

  • Invasive non-native species pose a significant threat.
  • Existing law is not sufficient for the control or eradication of such species.

Their report includes detailed recommendations for a system of orders to control such species in England and Wales.
