Changes to the Legal Aid Regime

Changes to the Legal Aid Regime came into force on 1 April 2013.

The changes are significant and many areas of law which were previously in scope for legal aid will no longer benefit from public funding.

Public law remains largely unchanged by the new regime which means that Harrison Grant can still offer the same service to qualifying legal aid clients for public law matters.

One key change relates to financial eligibility. All applicants for civil legal aid, regardless of their circumstances, will be subject to a capital means assessment. All capital must be assessed including savings, shares and property.
